Abstract of the article(s): (1-2 paragraph/s):
Netiquette has been known as a process of using technology to communicate with others, respecting their values and being cautious while online. The use of grammar, spellings, uppercases etc, are to be considered since they mean a lot. Netiquette has a golden rule which is to be applied while using computers, try as much as possible to do to others what you will like them to do to you.
While on the other hand Computer Ethics are procedure meant to help users use computers better which help to reduce their rate of mistakes.

Three things I learned from my Reading Assignment:
1.       To try as much as possible to respect the values and interest of other people.
2.       To ensure that I am brief and concise while on the internet, to read FAQ and be ready to forgive those who offend you.
3.       To adhere to the 10 commandments of computer ethics according to Dr. Ramon C. Barquin’s paper, "In Pursuit of a 'Ten Commandments' for Computer Ethics."

Application/Implication of the new things I learned to my work/to me as a person:
I am to apply these principles to my daily work as much as possible.  Ethics in the use of computers are very important and they are to be practiced and by doing them I will have an effective online transactions/interactions with people.  I am to take note of why, how and when I am supposed to communicate.

READING ASSIGNMENT:  2.) Computer and Internet Security

TITLE OF THE ARTICLE(S):  Computers and Internet Security (Discovering Computers), Science and Technology Resources on the internet (Computer Security)

AUTHOR (S): Shelly, G. B.; Cashman, T.J.; Vermaat, M.E . & Jane, F. Kinkus

PUBLISHER(S):  USA Thomson course technology 2008

URL: Science and Technology Resources on the internet. Retrieved July 1, 2011 from http://www.library.ucsb.edu/istl/02-fall/internet.html

Abstract of the article(s): (1-2 paragraph/s):
According to Jane, F. Kinkus, a Mathematical Science Librarian at Purdue University who states that  “Computer Security touches draws from disciplines as ethics and risk analysis, and is concerned with topics such as computer crime; the prevention, detection, and remediation of attacks; and identity and anonymity in cyberspace.”   The issue of privacy, integrity, and authenticity are very important to internet users and should not be taken lightly.
Computer and Internet security has to do with the activities of hackers, crackers, script kiddies, corporate spies, unethical employees, cyber extortionists and cyber terrorists.  These are perpetrators of cybercrime who have advanced computer and network skills of which internet users should be aware of their schemes and try as much as possible to avoid fallen into their traps.

Three things I learned from my Reading Assignment:
1.       I should be aware of common security risk like internet and network attacks, unauthorized access and use, hardware theft, software theft, information theft and system failure.
2.       Be aware of the cybercrime activities and those people who are involved.
3.       Ensure that my records, vital information are secured and are kept confidential even though there are not absolute security measures.

Application/Implication of the new things I learned to my work/to me as a person:
With the above view in mind, I am reminded to be cautious as I use the internet and ensure that my information is kept secured.  I am to take note of cybercrime perpetrators since they are also computer experts.
I am made to understand that the need to backup my computer files and records are very important, so as not to experience system’s failure. And most importantly, to ensure that I am not a party with these perpetrators who are everywhere in the society.   As I am better informed, it is my prerogative to inform library users too.
